World Alzheimer’s Day, observed annually on 21st September, provides us all with a moment to reflect, raise awareness, and stand in solidarity with the millions of people affected by dementia.  And it affects us all.  In 2025, with one in two people in the UK expected to be affected by dementia in their lifetime—either by developing it or caring for someone who does—the need for awareness and action has never been greater.

As part of World Alzheimer’s Month, this year’s campaign by Dementia UK focuses on a simple but profound message: “We live with dementia.”

This theme reminds us that dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed—it touches the lives of everyone around them. Families, friends, and especially carers are deeply impacted, often navigating emotional, practical, and social challenges with little recognition or support.

For carers, World Alzheimer’s Day is also a reminder that support is available. Admiral Nurses offer expert guidance, emotional support, and practical advice tailored to each family’s situation. Whether you’re facing a new diagnosis or struggling with the day-to-day realities of caring, you don’t have to do it alone.

This year, Dementia UK encourages everyone to use their voice. Share your experience on social media, talk to your community, and help break the stigma that still surrounds dementia. Tag @dementiauk and use #WorldAlzheimersMonth to join the conversation.

World Alzheimer’s Day is about connection, compassion, and change. Whether you’re a carer, a professional, or someone living with dementia, your story matters—and sharing it helps others feel seen, heard, and supported.

We have produced an information sheet for carers with lots of details of national and local support as well as links to video and downloadable resources.  You can get it here.
