Carers support in Barnet
There is a great deal of support available for carers both nationally and in Barnet. We have listed some of the support available for you to signpost carers towards. The list is not comprehensive and while we endeavour to keep it up to date, please check before signposting.

National Organisations
Carers Trust
Carers Trust operates the largest UK-wide network of local carer organisations. They refer to the 130 carer organisations in the network as Network Partners. Network Partners specialise in promoting the wellbeing of unpaid carers and providing them with information, advice and support specific to their city or region.
Carers UK
Carers UK has a mission to make life better for carers. They provide information and advice on caring, help carers connect with each other, campaign with carers for lasting change, and use innovation to improve services.
Age UK
Age UK provide support to anyone providing informal unpaid care to an older person through a range of local services. See Age UK Barnet for local details. Age UK’s provide carer support groups which are a relaxed and friendly environment for carers to get together. Carers can attend groups to:
- Meet people who are in a similar situation within a supportive space
- Get information and advice from trained staff and volunteers
- Attend outings and hear from speakers
Citizens Advice
Citizens Advice are here to help everyone who needs it with practical advice that you can really trust. The national charity and network of local charities offer confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. See Citizens Advice Barnet for local support. National Citizens Advice provides a helpline and information.
Mind
Mind works to change minds across England and Wales by making mental health an everyday priority. They stand up to the injustices – in healthcare, in work, in law – which make life harder for those of us with mental health problems. Mind offers help whenever you might need it through information, advice and local services. (See MIND in Barnet and Enfield).
Care Quality Commission
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. They make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage care services to improve.
The CQC monitor, inspect and regulate services and publish what they find. They can take action where they find poor care. If you are looking for care – home care or a care home for instance, you will be able to read a report on the provider on the CQC website.
Homecare Association
The Homecare Association represents homecare (domiciliary) care providers in the UK. They are useful if you are looking for information about home care services or advice about choosing a service.
Barnet Organisations
Age UK Barnet
Age UK Barnet provide a range of services across the borough including for carers. They support people with dementia and their carers and have day opportunities and regular events. They also have an advice service and a handy person service. Barnet Carers can make referrals to Age UK Barnet through our partnership.
MIND in Barnet and Enfield
Mind in Enfield and Barnet support people with mental health problems as they move towards a better life in society. Promoting the dignity, well-being and self-determination of people experiencing mental distress. Barnet Carers can refer carers to Mind.
Barnet Citizens Advice Bureau
Citizens Advice Barnet is an independent, local charity and a member of the Citizens Advice network. They provide free advice and support to meet the needs of the community. This includes advice on a range of problems, such as with work, debt, benefits, immigration, housing and more. They are there to help everyone who lives, works or studies in Barnet.
Barnet Mencap
Barnet Mencap was established in 1965 and for over fifty years it has provided advice, information and support for people with a learning disability and autistic people and their family carers. Barnet Mencap provides a range of services for children and adults. They campaign with people with a learning disability and autistic people and their families to secure high quality services and support in the borough. Barnet Mencap is the leading charity for children and adults with a learning disability and their families in the London Borough of Barnet.
Inclusion Barnet
Inclusion Barnet is a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation (DDPO), based in Barnet. All of the Inclusion Barnet Trustees and most of the staff have lived experience of disability. They are pan-impairment, so disability can include mental health issues and/or long-term conditions. Inclusion Barnet has a deep understanding of how society can be made more equal and inclusive.
Learning to use lived experience for social change is a skill. Inclusion Barnet have become experts in harnessing lived experience of staff, members, volunteers, and the people who use their services.
POhWER
POhWER are a charity that provides advocacy, information and advice services in Barnet. They are funded by the local authority and provide free, independent and confidential services. As an independent organisation they are separate from the government, local councils and the NHS and they always put the wishes and needs of the people they work with first.

Meridien Wellbeing
Meridian Wellbeing is a health and wellbeing charity based in Hendon. Meridian Wellbeing, works collaboratively with other agencies to offer holistic support for the benefit of the individual. They offer a wide range of health and wellbeing activities and services to Barnet residents.
Leisure Centres (GLL)
Established in 1993, GLL is a Charitable Social Enterprise and Workers Cooperative. It operates over 240 Leisure Centres including those in Barnet. Registered carers are entitled to a FREE Better Leisure Pass for access to some activities including swimming.
Enfield Carers Centre
For carers living in the London Borough of Enfield.
Carers First (for Haringey Carers)
For carers living in Haringey, services are provided by Carers First.
Camden Carers
Camden Carers supports informal carers across the London Borough of Camden.
Islington Carers Hub
Carers in Islington are supported by Islington Carers Hub.
