What is Counselling?
Counselling is a type of talking therapy. During the sessions, which normally last for about 50 minutes, the therapist will guide you to make effective changes in your life and finding ways of coping with problems. The Counsellor will not give you ready solutions or share personal opinions but will help you explore and understand your feelings – enabling you to bring about positive changes in your mental and emotional wellbeing.
Don’t take our word for it…
When starting the session with the Counsellor, her relaxed attitude slowly put me to rest and the sessions brought what was really upsetting me. By doing this, I was becoming more aware of things out of my control. As a result, my stress and anxiety levels have reduced and I have started to feel better.
IÂ needed help to deal with some problems that were affecting my personal relationships as well as my caring role. The Counsellor quickly put me at ease, allowing me to talk openly without feeling judged.
I had a great therapist, she has a deep understanding of what it’s like to be a carer and always made me feel heard and accepted. I felt like our therapy sessions were always helpful and left me feeling positive and confident. I would definitely recommend Counselling to someone feeling anxious or unsure about it.
My Counsellor was understanding and supportive. He helped me put my problems into perspective. The techniques he suggested really helped me to work through my issues. Barnet Carers was also always available to help me before, during, and after my sessions were finished.
Become a volunteer Counsellor!
We are constantly looking for new Counselling students who are keen to support our carers and complete their mandatory training – it’s a win-win!
