Barnet Carers Safeguarding Resource (Staff & Volunteers)
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility at Barnet Carers Centre. If you have concerns about a child or adult at risk, follow the 4 Rs:
Recognise
Identify concerns, disclosures or signs of harm.
Respond
Ensure immediate safety, listen, reassure and do not investigate.
Report
Escalate concerns promptly through internal safeguarding routes and contact external agencies when required.
Record
Make a clear, factual record as soon as possible, ideally on the same day.
Key points
- If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical help, call 999 immediately.
- Do not promise confidentiality and do not ask leading questions or investigate concerns yourself.
- If unsure whether a concern meets safeguarding thresholds, seek advice within Barnet Carers or from external agencies.
- Ensure an outcome to safeguarding referrals to MASH/Social Care Direct is received.
- Ensure all safeguarding referrals are followed up in writing and a copy is sent to the DSL.
Recording Safeguarding Concerns
All safeguarding concerns must be recorded and submitted to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) using the online form:
